Ingredients

Cake:

1 2/3 cups flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 cup cocoa

1 1/3 cups sugar

1 1/2 sticks butter

2 eggs

1 tbs vanilla

1/3 cup sour cream

1/2 cup boiling water

1 cup chocolate chips

Caramel Sauce:

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/3 cup water

1 1/4 cups heavy cream

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp sea salt, crushed until fine

Preparation

Cake: Preheat oven to 325.

Beat flour, baking soda, cocoa, sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, and sour cream. Mix again while adding in a stream of boiling water. Fold in chocolate chips.

Bake 50-55 minutes. Let cool, then poke holes throughout top.

Sauce: Mix water and sugar in a saucepan over low heat until sugar dissolves. Increase heat to med-high, allowing mixture to come to a boil (approx. 5-7 minutes). Once golden in color, remove from heat and add cream, vanilla, and salt. Turn heat back down to low and stir constantly until mixture is smooth.

Remove from heat. Let sit at room temperature 2-4 hours. Drizzle over cake.
