Ingredients

1 1/2 cups self-raising flour

1/2 cup margarine

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg, beaten

1 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a baking sheet.

Melt sugar, margarine and vanilla in a saucepan over low heat. Once melted, remove from heat; after the mixture has cooled, add the egg and mix. In a separate bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the egg/margarine/sugar mixture. Knead into a stiff dough (it will be fairly dry but needs no extra moisture). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out the biscuits with a 2-inch biscuit cutter and place on the baking sheet (with sufficient space to allow them to spread). Bake for 20 minutes until light golden in color.
