Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour

2 Tb arrowroot

1 Tb baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup butter or soy margarine

2 Tb maple syrup or sucanat

1 egg

2 Tb lemon juice

1/2 cup soymilk or buttermilk

Preparation

Mix dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Cut in butter or margarine.

In another small bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients: maple syrup, egg, lemon juice and milk. Add all at once to dry ingredients. Mix well until it forms into a large ball. Knead on a floured surface for 12 strokes.

Pat out to 1/2 inch thick and cut into biscuits using a biscuit cutter or floured glass.

Bake on a cookie sheet at 450 degrees F until lightly browned, about 10 minutes.
