Ingredients
1 28-oz can of pureed tomatoes
1 14-oz can of whole or diced tomatoes
2 6-oz can of tomato paste
1 14-oz can tomato sauce
1 medium onion chopped
4-6 cloves garlic pressed
1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 tbsp dried basil
1 tbsp dried oregano
2-4 tbsp chopped parsley
2 bay leaves
4 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Preparation
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil and fry onion and garlic just until it starts to turn golden.
- Add all the cans of tomato products. If using whole tomatoes, chop them first and include the juices.
- Add all remaining ingredients.
- Simmer the sauce on low heat stirring occassionally so it doesn’t scorch.
- Taste the sauce. If it tastes a little sour, add a little more sugar then simmer for at least 10 minutes for the flavors to permeate the sauce.
