Ingredients

2/3 cup shortening

1 2/3 cup sugar

3 eggs

1 cup sourdough starter

1 3/4 cups all purpose flour

2/3 cups unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoon soda

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup water

1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well after each. Blend in sourdough starter. Sift together dry ingredients. Add flour mixture to shortening mixture alternately with 1 cup water and vanilla. Mix at low speed. Pour into two 9 inch layer plans, well greased and floured.

Bake in a 350 degrees oven for 35 minutes. frost with your favorite frosting.
